The History of the Atomic Bomb
The events leading up to the bombing
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki first started in the 1930's when Japan invaded
Manchuria, China. The U.S was in isolationism. FDR had developed our nation
into the arsenal of democracy. Eventually America entered the war but Japan
continued to win the war over China. The Nazi's threw everything they had at
the cities. On the American home front appliances started to disappear from
stores. Before the war started the women wouldn't have worked but once the war
started women were mostly the people working all the time. The bombing on Pearl
Harbor was on December 7, 1941and that lead up to the start of World War II.
The US entered into World War II (1935-1941). The Issei faced the difficulty of
forging a new life that included elements of their traditional culture and the
culture of their newly found homes. A Nisei is a person who was born in America
of parents who emigrated from Japan. The Western Defense Command issued more
than 100 military "Exclusive Orders" directed civilians of Japanese
ancestry living on the West Coast. Next occurred the Bataan Death March on
April 10, 1942. 76,000 Allied POW's including 12,000 Americans are forced to
walk to 60 miles under a blazing sun without food and water toward a new POW camps.
Which resulted in over 5,000 deaths. Then came the Battle of the Coral Sea in
May 1942. Japanese successes in their initial expansion led to plans to extend
their perimeter. Next was the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Which was a Battle
of WWII turning the losing fight into a domination over Japanese Navy. The
Battle of Guadalcanal was from August 7, 1942- February 9, 1943. Marines landed
on Guadalcanal unopposed and quickly seized the Japanese built airfield. On
August 6th, 1945 Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima and three days later on
August 9th. 1945 Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan.
